Wayne Rooney told to ‘f*** off back to America’ by Birmingham fans after awful start to life back in the Championship
Wayne Rooney was left fuming with a ‘disgraceful’ referee decision as the England legend’s winless start as Birmingham manager stretched to three games - and even Mike Dean agreed.
And Rooney feels his side might have come away with at least a share of the points had the officials done their job properly, with the visitors denied a clear penalty just before half-time. Oliver Burke won a header in the box but was then flattened by goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu - but it was not given by the on-pitch officials.
“Southampton have got a coach who wants to play football and I said before the game that the teams that get out of this league are teams that play football. Russell has had time to build that, and that’s where we want to get to. “The goalkeeper is nowhere near the ball, the player’s been wiped out, it’s a penalty all day. It’s just basic refereeing.”
