WATCH: Sen TedCruz confronted on plane by BetoORourke supporter over gun control
The man posted the video of his encounter on Twitter under the name"Beto For Everyone." In the video, he attacks Cruz mainly for his refusal to support a gun control bill in light of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, which left 19 students and two teachers dead. He also made jabs at Cruz's highly publicized family trip to Cancun, Mexico, last winter when most of Texas lost power and his podcast.
The Texas senator responded by pointing to his legislative efforts to increase security at schools and asking the man why Democrats don't support it. The man retorted by asking how he had any time when he was"recording a s***ton of podcast episodes."After more back-and-forth about the Uvalde shooting, Cruz concluded the video by saying,"But you don't know. You don't care about the facts. You're a partisan. That's OK.
Cruz kept referring to his Securing Our Schools Act, which he described in the video as the"most significant school safety bill ever." The bill would double the number of school resource officers at schools, invest $15 billion to hire 15,000 mental health professionals, and otherwise increase security at schools. The bill was unanimously blocked by Democrats.
The heckler stood by his actions on Twitter, thanking other users for their support."I’d rather be a partisan than a fascist any day," he responded to one comment.
