Comer oversaw the first hearing of the new House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic on Wednesday. In the hearing, Rep. Jim Jordan blasted Fauci for dismissing notions that the coronavirus originated in a Chinese virology lab.While appearing on the Ingraham Angle, Comer said Wednesday’s hearing “was the first step toward the truth and then holding people accountable.”
“At the end of the day, I think what we are going to learn is people in the government knew about what was going on,” Comer said. “They knew from day one. They worked together to cover this up. This is wrong.” “We saw emails early on that show Dr. Fauci and Dr. Collins in February of 2020 were actively working to try to spin the narrative that anyone who said the lab leak theory was possible was either a conspiracy theorist or worse, a racist,” the congressman added. “They need to be held accountable. That’s why we’re going to continue to bring people in, build the case, and then Dr. Fauci and Dr.
Comer said he expects to call in additional government employees, scientists, and researchers for testimony to discuss the origins of the virus along with gain-of-function research and any money sent to the Wuhan lab.“These people need to be held accountable,” Comer reiterated. Conclusions on the origins of the virus remain mixed among federal agencies. The Department of Energy recently came down on the side of the lab hypothesis, a view shared by the FBI, while four other agencies and the National Intelligence Council are leaning toward the virus having a natural origin. The CIA and another unknown agency are currently undecided, according to a report.
