Travel experts have shared advice after thousands of holidaymakers get caught out every year
Brits have been warned to make important passport checks before going on holiday to avoid being caught out by Brexit passport rules, which apply to popular destinations including Spain, France and Greece. It comes as families jet off for the Easter break, with many more planning holidays abroad over the summer.
It’s thought that 100,000 holidays a year are ruined because British holidaymakers are not aware of the 10-year passport rule. Travellers heading to the EU need to make sure that their passports were issued less than 10 years before their departure date. They also need to make sure that their passports are valid for three months after their return date - otherwise they could be denied boarding.
This rule applies to the EU’s 27 member countries, except Ireland, and Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City. Prior to Brexit UK travellers could carry up to nine months from an old passport over to a new one, but this no longer applies under the 10 year rule.To help Brits make sure they don’t get caught, travel experts at Bounce has shared some of their top tips for holidaymakers.
