Ukrainian company dancers aren't sure they can go home after tour ends April 9 in San Diego
“Swan Lake” tells a magical tale that includes romance, a sorcerer’s curse, the transformation of a princess into a swan and the power of good over evil.When the Russian Ballet Theatre brings the touring production to the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, on Wednesday and to its engagement at the Civic Theatre on April 9, “Swan Lake” will prove to be more than entertainment.The cast and crew of the U.S.
Russian Ballet Theatre was founded in 2015 by Hartwick, who was born in Latvia, and Sasha Gorskaya, of Belarus. “I always say that we are a perfect example of how different nations can come together, creating something beautiful instead of destroying it,” Hartwick said. “It’s a family team.” Before arriving for a show in Memphis, Hartwick translated for dancers who wanted to share their perspective in phone interviews.
As the seductive Odile, Kifyak performs 32 fouetté turns, a movement that describes the way a ballerina whips out one leg for propulsion and revolves on pointe.
