The war in Gaza continues as Hamas launches an attack into Israel, resulting in casualties and further negotiations for the release of hostages. However, the offensive has had little effect on Hamas' rule.
The war began with Hamas ' Oct. 7 attack into Israel, in which it killed over 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and dragged some 240 people back into Gaza ., encouraging the territory's Hamas rulers to keep freeing hostages in return for the release of Palestinian prisoners and further respite from Israel's air and ground offensive.
