The French made the right choice, hope that America will follow suit in 2024 to elect an inclusive and honorable leader who values democracy.

The free world can breathe somewhat easier as President Emanuel Macron has been re-elected as the president of France.

A French leader of the ilk of far-right Macron opponent Marine Le-Pen would have been a calamity as she wears on her sleeve her contempt for those who are not like her: the Jews and Muslims whom she would prefer not inhabit her country. Le-Pen sought to play to the fears of the French and to hold herself out as the candidate who could successfully address the economic challenges that France and the world face, prominently including rising inflation. We saw something similar in Germany in the 1930′s when Adolf Hitler was able to seize power based largely upon the public’s desperation in a time of hyper-inflation.

There is no love affair between the people of France and Emanuel Macron, but the French made the right choice. I hope that America will follow it in 2024 to elect an inclusive and honorable leader who values democracy. I wish I could be certain that it will.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
