The appraisal was ordered earlier this month, days after the Union-Tribune reported that the city had agreed to the deal despite not having performed one
A San Diego real estate consultant said the purchase price appears fair, ‘but that doesn’t negate the need for an appraisal’Vista’s existing real estate policy calls for securing an independent appraisal before buying any property.
“The appraisal that we ended up getting resolidified our willingness to purchase this property and I really feel like we got a good deal on a property for our community that’s going to be here forever,” Councilmember Joe Green said. One .73-acre property with the same land-use designation sold last year for $359,000, according to the appraisal. A nearby 1-acre parcel with the same zoning sold for $900,000.One person spoke in favor of the park purchase during the special meeting. A number of others sent emails to the city urging the council members to buy the property.
City Council members said they would solicit design and development ideas for the new park from the public, along with suggestions about what it should be named.
