The band is generally associated with the mid-’70s downtown New York punk scene centered at CBGB’s, but its roots are in Northeast Ohio.

As she flings her limbs in every direction and undulates , the soundtrack is provided by The Cramps’ 1981 throbbing psychobilly cover of Ronnie Cook & The Gaylads’ 1961 song “Goo Goo Muck.”

Purkhiser, an aspiring visual artist moved to Sacramento to study art, where he met and fell in love with Kristy Wallace, aka Poison Ivy. The couple moved back to Akron in 1973, where they began formulating the Cramps concept, including their famous monikers. “When we readied that episode, we knew it was a school dance with lots of music, and that Jenna was working on her choreography,” Malone recently told“We had a huge Spotify list and the Cramps were always on it,” she said. “We pitched the Cramps’ “Human Fly” to the team, too, then spring-boarded onto ‘Goo Goo Muck.’ The Cramps are perfect for Wednesday. They’re in her headspace, like Siouxsie and Joy Division. I’m a former goth.

Among the folks thoroughly enjoying the renewed interest in The Cramps’ music is Michael Purkhiser, younger brother of Erick, a.k.a Lux. Like his nine-years older sibling, Mike is a longtime musician, a guitarist who played in Akron area bands, including The Action and The Walking Clampetts , and was a touring musician with the long-running Beatles Tribute band 1964.

Purkhiser watched the original “Addams Family” series as a youth in Stow and is sure his older brother appreciated the show’s aesthetic. He checked out the official clip of the dance and was impressed. He said his brother would be delighted by the recording’s revival and the show.In the first week following the series debut, The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” was streamed more than 2 million times, an exponential increase of 8,650 percent from their previous average, according to Billboard.
