Wednesday it will continue to suspend cruises until the end of 2020, making it one of the longest cruise cancellation policies to date.Photo by Chris Ratcliffe/Getty ImagesViking cruises have been canceled since March when it became the first major cruise line to cancel operations at the start of the coronavirus outbreak.
The company will continue to temporarily suspend operations until December 31, 2020, “at which time we believe the world will be in a better position, and international travel will be less complicated,” Viking Chairman Torstein Hagen said in a letter to customers.Other major cruise lines in the U.S.—Carnival, Royal Caribbean International and Norwegian Cruise Line—have previously said they are cancelling cruises until at least November 1.
A few smaller cruise lines that have already set sail have experienced outbreaks, including a cruise out of Alaska, run by UnCruise Adventures, that was“Fortunately, the U.S. State Department has lifted some travel advisories for Americans, but many countries are still limiting tourists. As keen as we may be to get back to exploring, for now, international travel must wait,” Hagen said.
