EXCLUSIVE: As Victoria Beckham - aka Posh Spice - celebrates her 50th birthday today [17th April] OK! takes a look back at the fashion designer, mum of four's life and career highs and lows
Victoria Beckham once said, “I was never a natural. I got there in the end because I did believe that if you work hard enough, then you can achieve a lot.”
Victoria Caroline Adams was brought up in Goff’s Oak, Hertfordshire, with parents Jackie and Tony and her younger siblings Louise and Christian. The family owned a successful electrical wholesale company and were comfortably off, but it was instilled in Victoria that she had to work for success. The subsequent successful audition to be a part of a new girlband saw her meet Geri Halliwell, who she described as “the kind of, ‘Yes I’ve climbed Mount Everest, I’ve done everything’ kind of person you’d want to hang out with”. With the addition of Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm the girls began to rehearse, with fellow band member Michelle Stephenson soon dropping out to go to university.
The feeling, it seems, was mutual and David asked her for her number after their eyes met across a crowded players’ lounge. It wasn’t long before the two were dating and in the space of six months had made their love official, with Victoria sporting a £65,000 marquise-cut diamond engagement ring. Rumoured to have had a £750,000 budget, there was no expense spared on the day. The lavish nuptials featured extravagant floral arrangements and entertainment from an 18-piece orchestra covering Spice Girls tunes, a DJ and a live soul band. Celebrity guests included Elton John, Manchester United players and, of course, Spice Girls – except Geri, who has never clarified why she didn’t attend.
This year, as well as Victoria’s milestone birthday, their silver wedding anniversary in July is a reminder that 25 years later, they are still made for each other and have come a long way.
