The Corridor Crew VFX artists show how difficult Tobey Maguire's lunch tray scene is from 2002's Spider-Man, and end up recreating it in fewer takes than director Sam Raimi. Essentially kick-starting the modern-day comic book movie boom, Spider-Man introduced audiences to Maguire's take on Peter Parker. The movie acts as an origin story for the character, showing his journey from a nerdy high schooler to a superhero.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Much of the first act of Spider-Man follows Peter as he becomes familiar with his newfound powers. In addition to developing a highly muscled physique and no longer needing glasses, Peter soon realized that he has enhanced sensory abilities and reflexes. These abilities are shown off for the first time when, during lunch, Mary Jane Watson slips, and her tray of food flies into the air.
The Spider-Man Movies Are Full of Impressive Stunts While Raimi's three Spider-Man movies do rely heavily on visual effects to pull off many of Spider-Man's physical feats and the films' impressive action scenes, they also feature a lot of practical stunts. The tray scene from the first Spider-Man is fairly low stakes in terms of its role in the story, but later sequences really up the ante.
Although Maguire seems to have done some of the action himself, Raimi's Spider-Man movies do also use stunt doubles. Just like the Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland Spider-Man movies that would follow, many of the scenes that feature Peter suited up as Spider-Man involve the use of a stunt double since the audience isn't able to see the actor's face.
