Veteran forward Christian Bishop playing big role for undersized Texas
Texas forward Christian Bishop , shooting over West Virginia Jimmy Bell Jr., totaled 11 points and seven rebounds across 24 physical minutes in the Longhorns' 69-61 road win Saturday.AUSTIN — Arterio Morris figured he’d just slither around the screen. Or at least battle through it. Instead, the Texas freshman crashed into a barricade named Christian Bishop. Only one of them budged, and it wasn’t the barricade.
At 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds, Bishop isn’t particularly humongous by basketball standards. That hasn’t stopped him the fifth-year senior from embracing the role of tough-as-nails inside presence for undersized Texas, which counts only one player heavier and two taller . Bishop wriggled free along the baseline to catch and slam a couple of pinpoint lobs from sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter in the first half. He shrugged off some contact on another twirling layup, providing some rare interior buckets during a sluggish first half for Texas, which trailed 28-26 through 20 minutes.
