UVALDE — The Uvalde City Council on Tuesday night approved a permanent memorial for the victims of the May 24 massacre and upright headstones for victims’ graves at Hillcrest Cemetery.
“Losing my daughter was the hardest thing I have ever done. Her final resting place, Hillcrest Cemetery, is a place of solace,” said Kimberly Rubio, who lost her daughter Alexandria, 10. “As such, it’s important to me that her grave site appropriately represent her.” A committee of the victims’ families has been working with city staffers to create designs for a memorial at the Plaza in the center of Uvalde.
