Between 2016 and 2021, 33 women received uterus transplants in the United States and so far 19 of them, or 58%, have delivered a total of 21 babies, researchers“Uterus transplant should be considered a clinical reality in the U.S.,” the researchers wrote.
More than a million U.S. women could potentially benefit from uterus transplantation, study leader Dr. Liza Johannesson of Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas said in an email. The babies were all delivered by Cesarean section, at an average of 14 months after the transplant. More than half were born after 36 weeks’ gestation.
