The University of Utah student was arrested for making a threat of terrorism on Wednesday in Salt Lake City.
Sometimes, college football fandom can get the best of people. But in Salt Lake City this past week, it brought about threats of mass destruction. On Wednesday, a 21-year-old University of Utah student was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday for making a threat of terrorism.
The threat of terrorism? Threatening to blow up the nuclear reactor on campus if the Utes had lost on Saturday to San Diego State.
According to the affidavit, the student “does have knowledge of the nuclear reactor” and attended class in the building the reactor is located. The arrest is the second Yik Yak-related one at the University of Utah in less than a month, the campus’ Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building in what he later claimed was a joke.
The good news for Utah natives is that, if the threats were serious, they would never have come to fruition— the Utes defeated San Diego State 35-7. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
