South Alabama football player Marvin Martin is in the hospital after suffering a serious neck injury in practice.
South Alabama is expected to reveal more information regarding Martin’s condition next week. Martin, who turns 21 in December, grew up in Vicksburg, Miss., and played a year of high school football in Texas before signing with Kansas State in 2021.
Martin had played in all seven games for the Jaguars this season on defense and special teams, totaling nine tackles and a pass breakup. On defense, he worked as the primary backup to starting free safety Jaden Voisin. South Alabama faces Arkansas State at 3 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Ark. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
