The college coaching legend heaps praise onto Rutgers, Greg Schiano

Rutgers Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano is a "maniac," according to Urban Meyer. There’s the two-minute offense, which involves the trailing team rushing to tie or win the game before time runs out, and then there’s the four-minute offense, the way the leading team keeps the ball to end a game. In Meyer’s mind, there is no coach better at executing the four-minute offense thanon Saturday. Both men agree that Schiano’s obsessiveness with the play makes him one of the best at it.

Holding a 27-24 lead over Michigan State after completing an 18-point fourth-quarter comeback, Rutgers went on a seven-minute, five-second drive to end the game. They handed the ball to star running back Kyle Monangai nine consecutive times, gaining four first downs in the process, killing five minutes off the clock.

It was a stark contrast to some head-scratching coaching decisions across college football this season, most notably from Mario Cristobal. The Miami head coach, who served as the offensive line coach at Rutgers under Schiano in 2003, did not tell his team to kneel out the clock in their game against Georgia Tech despite there being 40 seconds remaining in the game, the Yellow Jackets having no more timeouts and the Hurricanes having two more downs.
