Now, Ridley-Thomas’ name is added to a growing list of recent corruption cases or accusations, among Los Angeles elected officials.Jose Huizar pleaded guilty in January 2023, and faces several years in prison. Until this modern era of L.A. political corruption, some say the most memorable case among officials dated to 1969, when L.A. City Councilmember Thomas D. Shepard was convicted of bribery. The Shepard scandal in the San Fernando Valley led to broad reforms to the city’s zoning and land use rules.
David H. Wright, former executive at L.A. Department of Water and Power, pleaded guilty after accepting bribes including a $1 million promised job from Aventador Utility Solutions founder Paul O. Paradis, who took a plea deal in the corruption case.
