Plans for a huge new Farmfoods store at a former B&Q in Greater Manchester have been revealed. The unit at Atlantic Street Retail Park in Altrincham, which is currently a United Carpets store, could be converted into a frozen food retailer if the plans are approved.

According to planning documents, the family-owned grocery business, which was founded in 1954, has been moving to bigger stores in locations with free parking for customers. Until recently, Farmfoods had a store in Sale town centre, but it was deemed too small. In the document, consultants Gravis Planning said: "Farmfoods are committed to identifying a location for a store in Altrincham as well as other potential locations elsewhere in the Trafford Council area. The Atlantic Street Retail Park unit provides an ideal opportunity to provide a modern store appropriate for the needs of north/west Altrincham town which has the added benefit that it is located in a defined Retail Park within the town.
