Multiple forces, including the challenge of the global pandemic and armed conflicts around the world, are contributing to the problem of modern slavery.
A United Nations report from its International Labour Organisation says that one in every 150 people on Earth are estimated to be facing forced labor or forced marriages.
Guy Ryder, ILO director general, said,"Nothing can justify the persistence of this fundamental abuse of human rights." The report states,"Entrapment in forced labor can last years, while in most cases forced marriage is a life sentence."And the issue is worsening, with the ILO calling the numbers"shocking."
