The bombs have been used to devastating effect in the 10-year Syrian civil war (pictured), with evidence suggesting that Bashar al-Assad's forces using them to kill thousands of civilians.
The bombs are are drums packed with crude explosives, shrapnel and sometimes chemicals - which are then dropped from above from a helicopter. Weighting between 300kg to 600kg, they can destroy all in a 800ft radius.
