Germany is not aware of any requests from its allies to send Leopard battle tanks to Ukraine, a government spokesperson said today.
Last week, the Belarusian defence ministry said Moscow and Minsk had beefed up their joint military grouping in Belarus with weapons, soldiers and specialised equipment. "We understand that apart from powerful statements, we do not see anything powerful there, but nevertheless we must be ready both at the border and in the regions."Vladimir Putin has said the situation in the areas of Ukraine that Russia has annexed is"difficult in places".
It followed the so-called referenda in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, rejected as a sham by Ukraine and the West.Belarus's defence ministry has said that joint Russian-Belarusian air defence forces have been reinforced, with new missile units moved into position. Ukraine has repeatedly warned that Mr Putin may try to use Belarus to launch a new invasion of Ukraine from the north, a step that would open a major new front in the war.Images are emerging of US army vehicles, including tanks, being brought ashore in the Netherlands as part of a NATO mission to reinforce the alliance's eastern flank.
Now, Russia's defence ministry has said that Russian airborne units have surrounded the city from the north and south, while Russia's air force strike Ukrainian positions in the area. In their petition, doctors from across the country said the appearance of Mr Navalny made them"greatly concerned for his life and health" and claimed he was being"deliberately harmed".
Mr Navalny has long been outspoken against Mr Putin and was sentenced in March to nine years in prison after he was found guilty of large-scale fraud and contempt of court.'It is not a trilogy': Zelenskky says there will be 'no Third World War' in Golden Globes address "Those who united around the support for the free Ukrainian people in our common struggle for freedom and democracy."
Gen Lapin has faced widespread opprobrium over his perceived role in significant Russian losses and been blamed for a series of successful Ukrainian counteroffensives since Russia's invasion almost 11 months ago.
