🌡️ UK set for two days of extreme heat with temperatures climbing to 40°C on Tuesday
“It’s been caused by a perfect cocktail of ingredients, really hot air has been brewing across Iberia over the last few days and all that is being drawn north on southerly winds towards us. So there is really hot air, lots of sunshine, relatively light winds, and dry ground as well, it hasn’t rained in a good part of England and Wales. The atmosphere close to the surface of the ground heats up more than it would do if it was waterlogged.
“I would urge you to consider how you go about your day-to-day business on Tuesday. If you can work at home, do it, don’t travel if you don’t have to, don’t put unnecessary strain on the body, avoid any kind of exertion. Take it easy. Cabinet Office Minister Kit Malthouse, who chaired the meeting, said transport services will face “significant disruption” on Monday and Tuesday and urged people not to travel.The Health Secretary also confirmed that extra support is being brought in for ambulance services as the extreme heatwave has been declaredSteve Barclay said additional contingency support, such as more call handlers and extra working hours, are being put in place on Monday and Tuesday.
“We hoped we wouldn’t get to this situation, but for the first time ever we are forecasting greater than 40°C in the UK,” he said.
