China represents the greatest long-term threat to global stability and presents both a “direct and indirect” challenge to the UK, defence experts have said.
“The biggest threat long term is without a doubt China. Beijing is, without doubt, a real threat to the UK and the west. We must make them aware that we’re not happy to be bend to their will and then the world will be a much safer place.” “The ambition to increase China’s conventional and nuclear capabilities further add to rising tensions in the region, with countries like Japan now looking to build their own counterstrike capabilities.
David Lawrence, a research fellow at Chatham House, warned that the west must be ready for any attempt by China to invade Taiwan. “I think the word ‘threat’ does capture some of that I think it captures that you’re not absolutely certain how China affects Britain.
