The national uninsured rate dropped to a record low of 8% in Q1 of 2022, according to a new HHS analysis. The number could increase, however, if Congress fails to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire later this year.

The largest drop was seen among people living in poverty and those with incomes between 200% and 400% of the federal poverty level."Every American has the right to the peace of mind that comes with access to affordable, quality health care," President Biden said in a statement.
