The U.S. Soccer Federation has repealed the league's ban on kneeling during the national anthem. 'It has become clear that this policy was wrong and detracted from the important message of Black Lives Matter,' the organization said.

"It has become clear that this policy was wrong and detracted from the important message of Black Lives Matter," U.S. SoccerThe organization, which approved the move in a board of directors vote a day earlier, said it would let players decide how to use their platforms"to fight all forms of racism, discrimination, and inequality."
Under Policy 604-1 all national teams players were ordered to"stand respectfully during the playing of national anthems at any event in which the Federation is represented.
With the death of Floyd at the hands of former Minneapolis police officers, sports leagues — including men's and women's soccer — are under pressure to reckon with how they have suppressed players' voices and largely ignored a cultural shift.from the federation and a plan"on how it will now support the message and movement that it tried to silence years ago."
