was listed alongside European Union member states like Poland, Hungary and Slovenia as countries that are experiencing “concerning democratic declines,” though not to the degree of nations like India and Brazil, which International IDEA said displayed “” backslides in democracy over the past year. The report analyzed trends in data collected from 2020 and 2021. International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization made up of more than 30 member states that works to uphold democracy worldwide.
