Who's less likely to follow health guidelines in a crisis? People who share these traits.

When political beliefs were included as predictors, the models were able to predict 17% of variability in past behavior and 29% of variability in intended future behaviors. That’s a pretty large jump in accuracy .

Below I’ve created custom plots that show how people who identify as a libertarian at different levels reported engaging in health behaviors. In these plots, each row shows how frequent a given response is for people who gave a specific response on the libertarian survey question. The midpoint of all responses is indicated with a line.

This does not mean libertarians are bad. Some of my close friends and people whom I enjoy talking to the most are libertarians. This does not mean that becoming a libertarian, or identifying more strongly, will make you less likely to respond to CDC recommendations. This is a correlational study, meaning that it just picks up on relationships between things—it doesn’t test whether one causes the other.

This does not even *necessarily* mean that libertarians actually aren’t engaged in healthy behaviors, because this was just a self-report of how often you engage in the behavior.
