Deputies: A Chevy Impala appeared to be speeding when it crashed head-on into a Chevy Trax Friday in Jefferson Township. Two died, one was injured.
Two people have died and another person is hospitalized following a head-on crash Friday afternoon in Jefferson Township, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened at 2:22 p.m. in the 7000 block of Havens Corners Road in the area of Fox Chase Drive. Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert said Saturday that the identities of the those killed and injured would not be released until Monday. Sheriff's investigators report that a gray 2007 Chevrolet Impala and a white 2019 Chevrolet Trax were traveling in opposite directions on two-lane Havens Corners when the Impala — which appeared to be going above the 45 mph speed limit — crossed over the centerline and crashed head-on with the Trax, a subcompact SUV.
The driver of the Impala was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 2:37 p.m. A passenger was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where they were pronounced dead at 2:57 p.m., the sheriff's office said. The driver of the Trax was transported in stable condition to Mount Carmel East, the sheriff's office said.Havens Corners Road was closed for hours by the crash between Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road and North Waggoner Road during the crash response and investigation.
