Langdale Chase was named ‘North hotel of the year’ and Farlam Hall was crowned ‘Foodie hotel of the year’
The Times and Sunday Times named two posh Lake District hotels as among the best places to stay in 2024.
This time around, the experts were on the lookout for "interesting openings and news of established hotels reinventing themselves" - and good food of course. They were super impressed with Langdale Chase in Windermere and Farlam Hall in Brampton, reports the MEN. Judges said the lakeside getaway is "exactly what the local tourist scene has been so desperately lacking", adding: "Its grand interiors, complete with minstrels' galleries, elaborately carved oak panelling and stained glass manage to be opulent and yet winningly informal."
Langdale Chase's west-facing terraces and garden boast breathtaking views that frame Lake Windermere. The 4.5 acre garden, which is the only lakeside hotel garden in the area, was originally laid out by Thomas Hayton Mawson, the landscape architect responsible for the Palace of Peace Gardens at The Hague.
Nestled in the Cumbrian countryside, the remote Farlam Hall is home to the Cedar Tree restaurant by chef Hrishikesh Desai which was awarded a Michelin star earlier this year. Judges at The Times were 'dazzled' by Hrishikesh's cooking, commenting on his ability to do "wonderful things with English ingredients" and his "subtle and well-judged use of spice".
