The chase happened on June 1; nobody was injured
OAKLAND — Two people were arrested last week following a police pursuit that ended when their vehicle crashed into a telephone pole, authorities said.
The chase happened about 12:20 a.m. June 1, after a Lafayette police officer tried to pull over a vehicle at Mount Diablo Boulevard and 1st Street in that city, according to a statement from Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jimmy Lee. Both the vehicle’s driver and passenger were arrested, and Lee said the passenger had more than one felony arrest warrant out for him. Lee did not say what felonies were cited in the warrant.
When the officer turned on his patrol-car police lights, the vehicle the officer intended to stop immediately accelerated, Lee said. The pursuit wound up on Highway 24 toward Oakland and then moved onto eastbound Interstate 580 right after the Caldecott Tunnel. The vehicle then took the 35th Avenue exit.Neither the driver nor the passenger in the vehicle were injured.
