ANKARA/ISTANBUL: After pivoting Türkiye away from Western allies, President Tayyip Erdogan has changed tack with moves that have pleased the US and upset Russia, a turnaround seen aimed partly at reversing his country's economic downturn and boosting foreign investment.

Denouncing the move as a violation of the Turkish-brokered deal, Moscow said Ankara had promised to keep the commanders in Türkiye and complained that it had not been informed. "Türkiye doesn't want the Turkish-Russian relationship to be badly hurt, but this will inevitably have an impact on relations.
