Terry Hawkshaw's distressing experience with police was depicted on the ITV drama
The taxi driver who was the police's prime Yorkshire Ripper suspect, as depicted in The Long Shadow, spoke to documentary filmmakers about the harrowing ordeal.
Taxi drivers were being investigated after DCS George Oldfield, who is portrayed by David Morrissey, had a hunch the crimes were being carried out by a cabbie. Terry was made the prime suspect of the case after police noticed his taxi was often visiting red light distrcit areas, reports Scottish Daily Mail. He also matched the description of Peter Sutcliffe.In tonight's episode, with little else to go on, Terry, who lives at home with his mother, is hounded by police.
Terry told film crews: "I realised that I was being followed all the time and then it got to the stage where I knew the cars, the CID men knew me. We just followed each other around all night.
