Former President Donald Trump acknowledged former Sen. David Perdue will have a difficult time defeating incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp.
The comments came less than two weeks after Trump held a rally for Perdue, where he first showed signs of hedging on the candidate,Kemp holds a 9 percentage point lead over Perdue, according to the latestpolling average, and there's been no sign Trump's been able to put a dent in that support.
Trump essentially used Kemp as a verbal punching bag after losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden, repeatedly attacking the governor for not overturning Biden's win in Georgia.of anti-Kemp candidates that might have pulled votes from Perdue, like former state Rep. Vernon Jones ."We will see what happens," Trump said."But it’s a shame. It’s a shame. Not easy to beat a sitting governor. Just remember that.
