President Donald Trump said the United States is '7,000 miles away' from Syria, and regional countries had an as big, or even bigger stake in fighting ISIS—but Turkey not quite as much.
President Donald Trump said that the Islamic State militant group was a common foe of the United States, Russia, Iran, Syria and Turkey—but the latter may not be quite as engaged as the others.
"Russia hates ISIS as much as the United States does, Iran hates ISIS. We're fighting a war for Russia? We're fighting a war for Iran? You look at Syria, Syria hates ISIS, we're over there killing ISIS, don't forget we're 7,000 miles away," Trump told reporters. Turkey-backed Syrian fighters gather on the road between the Syrian towns of Tal Abyad and Kobane on the Turkish border, October 16, as Turkey and its allies continue their assault on border towns held by Kurdish-led forces in northeastern Syria. The remnants of Syria's opposition include an array of mostly Sunni Muslim Arab groups some of them espousing ultraconservative Islamist ideologies. The U.S.
