A senator trying to advance legislation to protect IVF has warned that Donald Trump will seek to 'eliminate reproductive choice' if he regains power
The decision came as a shock, even in ultra-conservative Alabama, as it simultaneously upended the state’s IVF industry, and raised big questions about precisely how far to the right Trump-leaning Republicans plan to take the rest of the country if they succeed in November’s elections., fearful that they could face criminal charges including manslaughter over the routine destruction of frozen embryos decreed non-viable for pregnancy, or unclaimed.
Mr Trump also intervened, telling a rally in South Carolina on Friday that he supports IVF and opposes the Alabama court’s decision. “Like the overwhelming majority of Americans, including the vast majority of Republicans, conservatives, Christians and pro-life Americans, I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples who are trying to have a precious, beautiful little baby,” he said, seeking to damp down an issue that could dramatically affect Republican prospects in November.
