'The autoworkers are being sold down the river by their leadership, and their leadership should endorse Trump,' the GOP frontrunner said.
"The autoworkers will not have any jobs, Kristen, because all of these cars are going to be made in China. The electric cars, automatically, are going to be made in China," Trump told NBC News' Kristen Welker in an exclusive, wide-ranging interview set to air Sunday on "Meet the Press."
The strike marked the first time the United Auto Workers union targeted the three automaker titans simultaneously. United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain speaks with the media and union members outside the UAW Local 900 headquarters across the street from the Ford Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, Sept. 15, 2023.Speaking from the White House on Friday, Biden said he hopes all parties are able to strike "a win-win agreement."
Trump has sought to seize the mantle of most fervent China hawk in the U.S. presidential election. He also tried to make Biden's electric vehicle push a key part of his case against the president.

NBC Exclusive: Trump tells Welker will ‘make a play’ for UAW votes despite disdain from leadershipIn an exclusive interview for Meet The Press, former President Donald Trump told Kristen Welker he would not pardon himself if elected, and denied accusations by the Special Counsel in the documents probe that he ordered security footage at Mar-A-Lago to be deleted. Kristen joins Andrea Mitchell to share more details from her first interview as Meet The Press’s new moderator. “It speaks to the importance of unions in this upcoming election and of this state. Ford, uniquely exposed to a strike, makes a last ditch effort.CEO Jim Farley and executive chairman Bill Ford both showed up to the negotiating table with UAW earlier this week in an effort to avert a strike, the company said in a statement. (UAW President Shawn Fain was a no-show, Ford says.) Ford wants to be seen as pulling out all the stops. But it’s also true that Ford employs the most UAW members of all the “Big Three” automakers, leaving the company uniquely exposed to the economic fallout from a strike. The deadline to reach a deal is tonight at 11:59PM. Tick tick tick.
