The York will feature in an episode of a hugely popular Channel 5 programme later this month
When a pub goes through ten landlords in as many years, alarm bells would ring for most people. But former soldiers Gemma and Gareth Gardner are no strangers to taking on a challenge and saw no reason not to take on Morecambe's The York in 2021.
TV crews filmed behind the scenes to document their remarkable story for hit Channel 5 show Hotel Inspector. The show is presented by renowned hotelier Alex Polizzi, who aims to save Britain's most poorly run hotels from closing down.Alex spent time with Gemma and Gareth offering her wisdom and advice on everything from menu choices to interior décor and customer service tips.
She was unable to reveal any more details at the time, but the pub announced on their social media channels that their episode will be broadcast on October 31 at 6pm on Channel 5. The couple, who were complete novices in the industry before taking on the pub, have four children and will be watching the episode for the first time "at the same time as the rest of the nation".
Gemma said previously: "We can't say yet what the programme is but it will air in October and filming has been intense but a great experience and we couldn't have got to this point without their help and support.
