Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to make landfall as a hurricane in the Carolinas on Monday, before swirling up the Mid-Atlantic coast. The National Hurricane Center is warning residents to brace for flash flooding and possible tornadoes.

"Heavy rainfall from Isaias will result in flash and urban flooding, some of which may be significant in the eastern Carolinas and the mid-Atlantic, through Tuesday night near the path of Isaias up the East Coast of the United States. Widespread minor to moderate river flooding is possible across portions of the Carolinas and the mid-Atlantic," the National Hurricane Center said in its 2 p.m. ET storm update.
Areas spanning from the coastal waters of Georgia up to the Virginia coast could see several feet of storm surge as the storm progresses. In a Sunday tweet, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper acknowledged the complications of managing both a pandemic and a tropical storm at the same time.
