Many of the stolen bikes were the competitors' personal bikes that had been specially adapted to fit the needs of their riders.

"Just the panic of, we’re about to have competition, and these kids that have worked so hard practicing aren’t going to have the equipment that they need," said Sodders, head of delegation for the Lake Travis ISD Special Olympics.But Saturday morning, word spread fast among the Special Olympics family. canceled their practice so they could share their bikes for the competition. A local bike mechanic also happened to have some extra trikes on hand.
Hodde’s son, Travis, got to compete and came away with two gold medals. Hodde said it’s the environment in which his son, who is autistic, is truly comfortable. And he looks forward to this competition every single year.They later learned someone had taken the trailer late Friday night, around 11 p.m., and images were captured on surveillance video of a white truck pulling up to the trailer containing the bikes, hooking up to the trailer and taking off with all the bikes in tow.
