A child was among five people who died while trying to cross the Channel in a small boat, just hours after the government’s Rwanda bill passed, according to French authorities
Migrants arriving in the UK after being rescued from small boats Rishi Sunak has been accused by Conservative rebels of being in “la la land” after admitting further delays to his flagship Rwanda scheme while insisting he will still “start the flights” and “stop the boats” crossing the Channel.
After that first July flight there will be a “regular rhythm” of “multiple flights a month through the summer and beyond”, Mr Sunak said. He blamed Labour for holding up the Safety of Rwanda Bill in the Lords, despite the Government’s rejection of earlier opportunities to rush the legislation through Parliament.
