Clemens’ Saniya Friendly captured the Region IV-6A 100 and 200 dashes.

Friendly won the 100 in 11.68 seconds and the 200 in 23.63. A year ago, she finished second to Jasmine Montgomery in both races last year. Montgomery, now at Oregon, won state titles in both events last year and set city records in the process. The Region IV-6A and IV-5A meets were held Friday and Saturday. The top two finishers in each event qualified for the UIL state championships.“I’ve been kind of nervous about this before I didn’t even know if I was even going to be able to be out here,” Friendly said.
Friendly’s teammate, junior Ariana Sutton, won the 6A girls 400 with a meet-record 54.53 to advance to state for a second straight season.“It was a big surprise for me,” Sutton said. “I wanted to PR today, and I did. … It’s a great achievement, and I’m so glad with how far I’ve come with getting that kind of time.”“I was in the zone, and I had the adrenaline and I was trying to run as fast as I could,” Sutton said.
Harlan’s Iyanna Webb won Friday’s triple jump and Austin Vandegrift’s Avery Segura, who will be Wise’s teammate at Arizona, was second . Gonzales set an area record in the 800 by finishing second with a 2:09.33. Cedar Park’s Isabel Conde De Frankenberg won with a regional record time of 2:06.53.Conde De Frankenberg also set meet record in the 1,600 with a 4:49.31. Gonzales was second in 4:57.73.
