Manchester United will finish the Premier League weekend closer to the top four than they started it.
Though the landscape of the top four race looks slightly better for United than it did at the start of the weekend, they are still on the periphery of the battle to secure Champions League qualification. They need to ensure their form between now and the end of the campaign is almost faultless, regardless of what Villa and Spurs do.
Nevertheless, Spurs' glut of goals in the second half saw each of Ange Postecoglou's leading attackers get on the scoresheet. Maddison now has 11 direct goal contributions from midfield in just 17 Premier League games this season, scoring four goals and registering seven assists. United, by comparison, have been unable to rely on their forwards and creative players as often as they would have liked in front of goal this season. Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay have all netted seven league goals each to put themselves at the top of the scoring charts at Old Trafford.
United, by contrast, have lacked an identity this season, often resulting in criticism. After spending such lavish amounts of money and being two years into the Ten Hag era, that should not be the case, meaning changes need to be made come the summer.
