Kelly Loeffler's legal troubles may be over, but that doesn't necessarily mean she can stay afloat politically

Wall Street JournalTuesday. Like Burr, the three made stock trades earlier this year, as lawmakers received briefings on the emerging COVID threat, that ultimately saved them hundreds of thousands of dollars. But Loeffler, Inhofe, and Feinstein say that the moves were made without their knowledge by financial advisers, thereported, and that they learned of them after the fact. “I did nothing wrong,” Inhofe, Republican of Oklahoma, said in a statement.

All three senators are sure to be relieved by the DOJ’s decision, especially as the FBI turns up the heat on their colleague Burr. But Loeffler appears particularly enthused. The Georgia Senator is fighting a special election battle for the seat she was appointed to in January, and—has used the controversy over her suspicious trades in campaign attacks against her. A defiant Loeffler compared herself to the president following news that prosecutors are dropping the investigation.

Getting prosecutors off her back could take some focus off her shady financial dealings, and a million dollar, to the America First PAC—a leading group supporting Trump’s reelection—could help endear her to the president. But even he seems to be in danger in the state, with recent polls suggesting Trump and presumptive Democratic nominee. Loeffler may have avoided the fate of Burr, who had his cell phone seized by investigators earlier this month.
