The Fylde representative - who denies the latest claims - was branded 'potentially somebody who's quite troubled' by Grant Shapps
Tory MP Mark Menzies has been embroiled in a series of controversies over the years, from allegations involving a Brazilian escort, claims he got a dog drunk to drunken scenes at Last Night of the Proms.
Mr Menzies is no stranger to controversy, the Mirror reports. In 2014 he stepped down from his Government role after a Sunday Mirror investigation found he'd paid a teenage escort for sex and drugs. His staffer allegedly paid the cash from her personal bank account and was later reimbursed from a campaign fund paid for by donors. A source close to Mr Menzies told the paper he had offered to repay this sum but claimed local Tories who ran the account said he did not need to.
Mr Menzies told the Times: “I strongly dispute the allegations put to me. I have fully complied with all the rules for declarations. As there is an investigation ongoing I will not be commenting further.” These allegations led to Mr Menzies dramatically quitting as a Parliamentary Private Secretary with the Department for International Development. He said: "I have decided to resign as a PPS after a series of allegations were made against me in a Sunday newspaper."Claims he got a dog drunk Mr Menzies was quizzed by police in 2017 over claims he'd got a friend's dog drunk - which he denied.
“I co-operated with the police investigation and officers were handed more than enough evidence to completely clear me of any wrongdoing whatsoever.”
