A man who spent most of his 20-year career as a fighter jet pilot in the Navy says the movie Top Gun was influential to the beginning of his military career and now is also influential at the end of it.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
He said a majority of the extras in movie were all military, so the scenes of them hanging out at a well-known bar on base were genuine. He then attended the red carpet event on the USS Midway to mark the premiere of the film in San Diego. That continued to bring his story full circle because of the event’s location on the USS Midway.
"The cast and crew were so so nice to us, very respectful of the military, very appreciative of us. Tom Cruise spoke to me personally, he’s so so nice," he said, adding that he felt guilty for how long Cruise spent talking to him at the premiere.
