A pit-road incident shook up the NASCAR playoff field and put two big-name drivers in trouble, Homestead showed why it's a gem and more.
HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Five thoughts after Sunday’s Round 3 NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Homestead-Miami Speedway … 1. Taking Stock With 54 laps remaining in Sunday’s NASCAR playoff race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, it all looked about as straightforward as it could get. The four favorites to advance to the championship race in that moment — Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and William Byron — were running 1-2-3-4.
That could have taken Larson out of contention, allowed Blaney to drive away if the race stayed green and meant Bell would have never gotten into the picture. • If NASCAR doesn’t rescind Blaney’s penalty: To be clear, NASCAR did the right thing last Monday by admitting fault and correcting the disqualification it issued Blaney after Las Vegas. The equipment used to measure Blaney’s shock gave a faulty reading, and Blaney’s points were restored.
