With the movie now in its third week of release, Box Office Mojo reports that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has crossed a major box office milestone. The animated reboot has finally surpassed the $100 million mark, sitting at just shy of $105 million worldwide at the time of writing.
Why Mutant Mayhem Underperformed At The Box Office After Best TMNT Reviews Sitting at a 97% "Certified Fresh" approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem soars far above prior adaptations of Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman's comics, with the only other movie coming close being the 1990 original at a 42%.
Even with this positive reception assuring a fresh change of pace for the franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem's underperforming box office largely stems from the sheer competition it's faced in theaters. The reboot hit the big screen two weeks after both Barbie and Oppenheimer made their highly anticipated debuts, with the former holding the No. 1 spot all the way up until its fourth week of release, in which it was overtaken by new release Blue Beetle.
While this would normally be a concern for a franchise's future chances, those who fell in love with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem can take comfort knowing that Paramount is already moving forward with both a sequel and continuation show at Paramount+.
