The man charged with attacking police near Times Square on New Year’s Eve told a detective after being arrested that he wanted to kill an officer in uniform, according to a complaint made public
Wednesday.
Mr. Bickford, who law-enforcement officials said was motivated by Islamic extremism, made his first appearance in New York state court Wednesday, where he was charged with. In asking that he be held without bail, a prosecutor said that Mr. Bickford was a significant flight risk.
